Ordering a handcrafted architectural door is different from ordering standard online products. Because of their size, weight, and materials, custom interior doors must ship via freight carriers on secured pallets rather than parcel shipping. Understanding how freight delivery works - and preparing for delivery day - ensures a smooth experience and protects your investment.

Why Custom Architectural Doors Ship on Pallets

Architectural doors are significantly larger and heavier than standard interior doors. Many custom doors weigh well over 100 pounds, and multi-panel glass systems can weigh considerably more. To protect them during transport, each Rustic Luxe Designs door is packaged on a custom-built pallet and enclosed in a protective crate. Our pallets are shipped as non-stackable freight, meaning carriers are instructed that no additional freight may be placed on top of the pallet during transportation. This protects the door from pressure, shifting loads, and structural stress during transit.

Why Shipping Delays Can Occasionally Occur

Because our door pallets are designated non-stackable and must remain upright, freight carriers must have properly configured trucks to transport them safely. Occasionally a freight truck may arrive already loaded in a way that would require the crate to be placed on its side or positioned under other freight. When this occurs, we will decline loading the shipment. Rather than risking damage to a handcrafted architectural product, we wait for the next properly configured freight pickup. In some cases this may delay shipment by a few days while the carrier schedules the correct equipment. Our priority is ensuring the door arrives safely - not simply getting it on the first available truck.

Preparing for Delivery Day

Freight deliveries typically arrive curbside or driveway depending on the location. Before your shipment arrives we recommend: • Ensure a clear path for moving the door after delivery • Have at least one additional person available to assist • Allow time to inspect the crate and door before signing • Plan to open the crate immediately upon delivery.

Delivery Inspection Timing

Freight carriers typically allow a brief inspection window at the time of delivery before the delivery receipt is signed. Customers should plan ahead and have the appropriate manpower and tools available to open and inspect the shipment.

Because custom architectural doors ship on secured pallets and protective crates, we recommend having at least two people available to assist with opening the crate and visually inspecting the product.

In most cases, freight drivers allow approximately 10–15 minutes for inspection before continuing their route. Customers should be prepared to:

• Open the crate immediately upon arrival
• Inspect surfaces, edges, and framing
• Confirm size and configuration
• Verify glass integrity and hardware (if applicable)

Any visible damage must be noted on the delivery receipt before signing.

Once the delivery receipt is signed without notation, the shipment is considered accepted in good condition.

Please ensure manpower and tools are ready before the delivery truck arrives, as freight drivers cannot remain on site for extended uncrating or installation.

Inspecting Your Shipment

Inspection at the time of delivery is extremely important with freight shipments. When your order arrives:

If Damage Is Observed

Once the delivery receipt is signed without notation, responsibility transfers to the customer and the carrier will not return to retrieve the shipment. Freight claims can take up to 30 days to process through the carrier.

After Delivery

If concealed damage is discovered after unpacking, Rustic Luxe Designs must be notified in writing within 24 hours of delivery. Please retain all packaging materials until inspection is fully completed. Every Rustic Luxe Designs door is handcrafted and inspected prior to shipment. Proper crating, palletizing, and delivery inspection procedures help ensure that your door arrives safely and exactly as intended.

Understanding Freight Pallet Deliveries

Custom architectural doors are shipped on secured pallets and protective crates to prevent damage during long-distance freight transport. These pallets are designated non-stackable freight, meaning other shipments cannot be placed on top during transit.

Because of this protection system, the door must remain secured to the pallet until it reaches the final delivery location. Freight drivers are not responsible for uncrating, installation, or removing the door from the pallet.
