Choosing the right species means understanding not just what looks beautiful in a showroom photograph, but what will look right in your specific space, in your specific light, alongside your specific finishes.

White Oak

White oak is a popular species - and for good reason. It strikes a balance between architectural versatility and natural beauty that few woods can match. Its grain is open and moderately pronounced, with warm straw tones that deepen over time. White oak accepts a wide range of finishes, from natural oils that let the grain speak to darker stains and ebonized treatments that transform it entirely.

Best for: Modern, transitional, and Scandinavian-influenced interiors. Works equally well in light and dark finish directions.

Rift White Oak

Rift-sawn white oak is cut at an angle to the growth rings, producing a remarkably consistent, linear grain with minimal ray fleck. The result is a cleaner, more architectural look than flat-sawn white oak — one that photographs with particular elegance and pairs beautifully with contemporary interiors where visual calm is the goal.

Best for: Minimalist and contemporary interiors where a quiet, uniform grain is preferred over natural variation.

Walnut

Walnut is a statement wood. Its rich, chocolate-brown tones with grey undertones give it an unmistakable presence, and its natural variation - from darker heartwood to lighter sapwood - means no two doors are alike. Walnut is relatively open-grained and finishes beautifully raw, clear sealant only and most stains, allowing its natural depth to come forward.

Best for: Warm, luxurious interiors. A single walnut door can anchor an entire room’s design direction.

Sapele

Sapele is an African hardwood with a distinctive interlocked grain that produces a ribbon-stripe figure when quarter- or rift-sawn. Its reddish-brown tone deepens with age and exposure to light, and its natural luster gives finished doors a richness that reads as genuinely premium. Sapele is harder and denser than many domestic hardwoods, making it an excellent choice where durability is a priority alongside aesthetics.

Best for: Traditional, transitional, and high-end contemporary interiors. Particularly striking in larger door formats where the ribbon figure can be appreciated.

Cherry

Cherry is beloved for what it does over time. Light cherry begins with warm pink-to-amber tones and deepens into a rich, honey-red patina with exposure to light - a transformation that makes it one of the most rewarding woods to live with. Maple

Maple is one of the lightest-tones we offer, with a fine, consistent grain and a smooth, even texture. Its near-white to pale cream color makes it an ideal canvas for painted finishes, and it also accepts clear and light stains beautifully. Maple is exceptionally hard and resistant to wear, making it a practical choice in high-use areas.

Alder

Alder is a fine-grained, relatively light wood species with a straight grain and subtle, even texture. It machines and finishes cleanly, accepting stains with good consistency. Alder’s natural tone sits between birch and cherry - a warm beige to light tan - and it is often chosen when a softer, more approachable warmth is preferred over the density of walnut or the formality of sapele.

Pine

Teak
