UNFINISHED DOORS
Our unfinished doors offer a versatile and cost-effective solution for customers who prefer to customize their doors with a personalized stain or paint. This option embraces the natural beauty and unique characteristics inherent in raw wood, providing a truly organic and rustic aesthetic.
Characteristics of Raw Unfinished Wood:
The raw unfinished option proudly displays the natural variations and features of wood. These may include, but are not limited to, minor checking, voids, cracks, tooling marks, machined edges and corners, as well as both hard and loose knots. These elements are considered beautiful characteristics of natural wood and contribute to its unique charm and rustic appeal. It's important to note that these natural characteristics may result in areas with uneven or coarse surfaces.
Preparation and Finishing:
For our finished, ready door option - knots, voids, and cracks are expertly filled with a high-quality wood filling compound. Additionally, these doors undergo a meticulous hand-sanding process by our skilled craftsmen, utilizing a fine-grit orbital sander. Every joint and edge is carefully treated and hand-sanded to eliminate machined edges and ensure optimal preparation for a final paint or stain application.
Opting for the raw unfinished door provides more flexibility. Customers can choose to embrace the natural voids, cracks, and knots, or they can fill these areas with a wood filler compound of their own choice. Bondo will be applied at seams by us and you will need to sand.
Customer Preparation and Lead Time:
Customers who select the raw unfinished option will need to prepare their door for finishing by hand-sanding both sides and all edges with fine-grit sandpaper. Typically, preparing a standard door for a paint or stain finish takes approximately 8 hours.
While the unfinished option is more economical, it does require additional effort and time for preparation. If you are new to working with wood, we do not suggest this option.
